STEVE BOYCE – Rest In Power

Steve Boyce

We regret to announce that our UCU colleague Steve Boyce passed away in Germany in June of this year.  This is such sad news for his family, loved ones and the Trade Union movement.  Steve worked tirelessly to improve terms and conditions for education staff working in the prison service, battling on throughout multiple incarnations of private companies taking over prison education and not recognising UCU in the workplace. Steve raised the profile of members working in prisons locally and across the UK.  Steve had an active role in the Eastern & Home Counties Regional Committee as Equality Rep, and more recently he was the Secretary for the regional Retired Members Branch.  He was also on the NEC and the LGBT Members Standing Committee for a number of years until he retired, and he received the UCU DSA – Distinguished Service Award at Congress in 2019. Steve will be greatly missed but always loved by those that had the privilege of working with him through the UCU.

Steve was a dedicated trade unionist and activist who tirelessly worked for the benefit of others. He did this with great skill, competency and dedication but also with a great style, warm friendship and humour that we will sorely miss.

The EHCRC are collecting further tributes and/or photos of Steve to add to this  page –   Steve receiving UCU DSA 2019
